The cemetery lot used in 1887 to mark a boundary line for The Moses Gamble House property.

A portion of the handwritten deed describing the property boundaries.

The Moses Gamble House is located on property adjacent to the original 1798 city plot of Maryville, bounded on the east by what is now Cates Street (originally School Road, then Boyd Street). Above is a portion of the handwritten deed recorded when James A. Boyd, purchased a parcel of land containing the lot from C. T. and Martha Cates in February, 1886. James later sold the property to his son Nathan in April,1887 for $125. Note that a corner of the property boundary was marked by the New Providence Cemetery burial lot of R. I. Wilson across the street from The Moses Gamble House. The deed reads: "A certain piece parcel or tract of land . . . bounded as follows: Beginning at the stone corner of the burial lot of R. I. Wilson. . . " Markers remain on the burial lot for R. I.'s wife Sarah who died on August 8th, 1854 at the age of 26 and their one year old daughter, Jenny who died on August 16th, eight days later.

A portion of the 1892 deed.

Nathan Boyd, a cabinetmaker, built the house around 1892. Above is a copy of the handwritten deed recorded when Nathan Boyd sold the property to John N. Hutton three years later for the sum of $775. See a full transcript of this deed.
